E Mail to let the Government Know How You Feel About Babar Ahmad
Babar Ahmad is a British citizen who has been detained without trial in the UK for almost 8 years facing extradition to the US for offences allegedly committed in the UK. All the evidence against him was collected in the UK with most of it being sent to the US before the Crown Prosecution Service could decide whether to prosecute him in the UK or not, a fact only admitted by the CPS in November 2011. It is only right that Babar be tried in the UK and not extradited to the US.

Please write to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer, to demand that Babar Ahmad be immediately put on trial in the UK. Copies will also be sent to the Attorney General and the Home Secretary.

We encourage supporters to prepare their own letters using the above points. A sample letter is below for your convenience but a personalised letter always carries more weight.

Following the decision of the European Court of Human Rights on 10 April 2012 in relation to British terror suspect Babar Ahmad and his extradition to the US, Liberal Democrat peer and senior barrister Lord Carlile made a number of comments to the media which seem legally questionable and contradictory to opinions he has publicly stated in the past.

Tonight, Thursday 5 April 2012 at 10:30 pm, BBC Two’s Newsnight will broadcast an historic interview with British defendant Babar Ahmad, the longest detained-without-trial British citizen in the modern history of the UK.

The House of Commons Home Affairs Committee is recommending that the Government seek major amendments to the 2003 US-UK Extradition Treaty.

With the decision of the European Court of Human Rights on Babar's case imminently due and in light of the tragic extradition of British pensioner Christopher Tappin to the US, the Free Babar Ahmad (FBA) Campaign is urging all supporters to take action this Friday 23 March 2012 to mobilize to stop Babar's extradition to the US.

Please read the appeal below from Babar's father, Ashfaq Ahmad, and see what you can do to help.

UK-US extradition often works quicker from the US to the UK than vice versa, says the former judge who reviewed the controversial treaty.
