The Metro has this morning covered the cases of Babar Ahmad, Talha Ahsan (who are Tooting constituents), Gary McKinnon and Richard O’Dwyer – all are awaiting extradition to the United States – none have been charged in the UK.

Speaking about the cases, Sadiq Khan MP said, “As the Member of Parliament for Tooting I have been working with the families and legal representatives of my constituents, Babar Ahmad and Talha Ahsan, for several years. I have raised a number of different issues about their cases to senior members of the previous government and current government (including several Home Secretaries) and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). If there is evidence against them they should be tried in the UK.

“I am extremely concerned about Talha’s medical condition. He suffers from Asperger syndrome and after seeing the way that Christopher Tappin was treated I am concerned whether Talha would received the attention his condition requires.

I recently arranged for the Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee to hear directly from Babar & Talha, and he has now written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) asking further questions.  The coalition Government have promised to review the extradition agreement and this should happen as soon as possible. I will continue to do everything I can to support my constituents.”
