Sir, What an injustice! How can our Government extradite two British Muslims, Babar Ahmad and Talha Ahsan to the US without due process of law. They should have been tried in British courts and if found guilty punished.

Ahmad is the only Briton to have been imprisoned alive for over eight years without charge. The reason? He is a Muslim. Would our Government and judiciary have dared incarcerate a Jewish or Christian person for such a long time without charge? No way.

Muslims, here and abroad, are frequently reminded to respect the rule of law. What hypocrisy.

And the way Ahmad was extradited, like a “piece of cargo”; his parents and family were not even allowed to bid him farewell. Such inhumanity. Such kind of treatment usually happens in dictatorial regimes. Where is our country heading towards?

As you rightly argue in your editorial, ‘British justice for all – except Muslims’. How true. Our Government is truly pandering to the Islamophobic British media who used Abu Hamza to mask the human rights of Babar Ahmad and Talha Ahsan.

I have lost trust in our justice system. I am sure non-Muslims will disagree. They may be right. I should rephrase it. Our justice system has failed Muslims and Muslims have lost trust because of this.

Sir, I agree that the extradition of Babar Ahmad and Talha Ahsan was discriminatory. And as it has been mentioned in your news story, the decision was racist. But I would go one step forward. It wasn’t racist, it was Islamophobic as the decision was made because they were Muslim not because of their race or ethnicity.

It is quite interesting to see how blatantly Home Secretary, Theresa May, made her decision on extradition of Gary McKinnon and especially Talha Ahsan as these two cases are similar.

She, because of media pressure, revoked McKinnon’s extradition even though he had confessed that he had committed the crime that the US had accused him of. May invoked Human Rights Act to prevent his extradition on health grounds as he suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome but felt there was no human right for Ahsan who also suffers from the same illness. One is Muslim the other is not. It seems Muslims’ rights are being trampled in this country.
